Independent Sewer Camera Inspection in New Dorp

Sewer Lateral Camera Inspection — House Trap to Street inspections in New Dorp start at $249 for residential properties. Commercial buildings start at $599.

New Dorp is one of the Staten Island neighborhoods we serve. The standard inspection follows the accessible sewer lateral downstream from a house trap or cleanout toward the street and is delivered as video, photos and a written summary.

Because we do not perform repairs, drain cleaning, excavation or replacement, what we find has no bearing on what we earn.

Our standard inspection follows the sewer line downstream from an accessible house trap or cleanout toward its connection with the public sewer main in the street, as far as access and pipe conditions permit. It includes recorded video, photos of significant findings, and a digital inspection summary. Underground locating is available when a finding makes it appropriate.

Interior drain stacks, individual fixture drains, and building drain piping upstream of the inspection entry point are not included. The public sewer main itself is not inspected.

An entry point being inside the basement does not mean the service includes the building’s interior drainage system.

Reasons for an inspection in New Dorp

We serve this area — we do not maintain an office or permanent staff in it.
  • Buying with a short inspection window

A sewer scope is quick to schedule and gives a buyer documentation to work from before contingencies expire.

  • Two-family properties

More fixtures and more daily flow are a reasonable reason to document the accessible line before purchase.

  • Recurring slow drainage

Footage helps distinguish a visible obstruction from visible structural damage in the accessible portion of the line.

  • Before committing to major work

An independent recording is a useful reference when comparing contractor proposals.

Why inspect the sewer?

Your Home Inspection Can't See Underground.

A property's sewer lateral can contain problems that aren't visible during a traditional home inspection.

Root Intrusion

Tree roots entering pipe joints or damaged sections.

Cracked or Broken Pipe

Visible cracking, fractures or damaged sections.

Offset Joints

Pipe sections that no longer align properly.

Standing Water

Areas where water remains in the pipe and may indicate improper drainage or a belly.

Deterioration

Visible deterioration associated with aging piping.

Blockages & Buildup

Debris or buildup restricting the line.

Limitations

What a camera inspection cannot show

A camera inspection documents the interior of the accessible line along the distance the camera travels. It does not reveal every concealed condition.
  • Access can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Pipe configuration can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Pipe diameter can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Obstructions can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Turns can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Blockages can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.
  • Physical site conditions can limit visibility or the distance the camera is able to travel.

We do not certify a sewer line, guarantee future performance, diagnose causes or make code determinations.

$249 residential starting total in New Dorp · $599 commercial buildings. These are complete starting totals, not fees that add together.

Sunday appointments add $100, same-day appointments add $200, and both together add $300. A $100 no-access fee applies only where access was not possible and we were not told beforehand. Everything is disclosed before an appointment is confirmed.

Three units or fewer is treated as residential; four or more units, or a building with a storefront, is commercial. If the property turns out to be different on site, we adjust before proceeding.

Preparing

Access and what to tell us when booking

Access is the single biggest factor in whether an inspection goes smoothly.
  • Look for an exterior cleanout near the front foundation or an interior cleanout in the basement.
  • Arrange access and confirm the appointment with whoever is at the property.
  • Tell us if the property has separate drainage lines for different units.
  • Note any active backup in the booking form — we may need to plan the visit differently.

Illustrative inspection scenario

This is a hypothetical example explaining how an inspection may inform a decision. It is not a completed NY Sewer Cam job or a customer testimonial.

A buyer of a two-family house in New Dorp is told there are two separate drainage lines. Only one cleanout is visible, and the other line's access point is unknown.

On site, an inspection might successfully document the accessible line while the second line cannot be inspected because no usable access point can be found. That is a real and fairly common outcome, and it is reported as clearly as any defect would be.

The next step in that situation is usually a plumber locating or installing an access point so the second line can be inspected — work that is outside what an inspection company does.

For the buyer, the decision becomes whether to pursue that additional step before closing or to proceed knowing one line remains undocumented. Either way the choice is now informed rather than accidental.

The limitation here is the whole point of the scenario: an inspection can only report on what it can reach. A partial inspection has partial value, and we would rather say so than imply coverage we did not achieve.

After the inspection

How you use the documentation

You can watch the inspection live on site. Afterwards the recorded video, photos of significant observations and the digital inspection summary are emailed to you — typically within 24 hours.

The documentation is yours. Buyers commonly share it with their agent, attorney or the seller. Owners share it with a licensed plumber or sewer contractor to get an evaluation, and often to compare more than one proposal against the same footage.

We do not promise a negotiation outcome, a repair cost, or how a line will perform in future. We document what was visible on the day of the inspection, and any further evaluation or repair work is handled by a qualified contractor you choose.
